Code of Conduct
All Researchathon participants and attendees must abide by and agree to the following Code of Conduct. The Code of Conduct is universally applicable to all volunteers, staff, speakers, sponsors and attendees and is a binding document that must be followed. The Code of Conduct is a flexible code that can be adjusted and updated at any time as deemed necessary by the Researchathon organizing team.
Should any of the following rules be violated, the suspected individual will be subject to expulsion from the Policy for the People Discord and an immediate discontinuance of the individual’s participation in the Researchathon.
As an all-inclusive, open-source competition for all students of all backgrounds, the team at Researchathon will ensure that the safety of marginalized individuals is valued over the comfort of the privileged.
The Researchathon organizers will not tolerate any form of harassment of the attending participants. We aim to provide a safe experience to all Researchathon attendees, regardless of religion, language, nationality, race, body, age, ethnicity, physical appearance, social class, economic status, veteran status, mental illness, neurotype, gender, gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, or disability. Harmful actions such as distribution of sexual images, stalking, deliberate intimidation, sustained disruption of talks or other events, inappropriate physical contact, unwelcome sexual attention, following, harassing photography or recording will not be tolerated and are subject to investigation. Our organizing team will take all necessary measures to establish an inclusive and welcoming community for all.
As Researchathon focuses on the discussion of project ideas, world issues and solutions, free speech is a necessary factor in ensuring all voices have an equal chance to be heard. If a participant attacks another’s ideas and projects based on the individual’s personal characteristics rather than the facets of their argument, they will be promptly dismissed from participation within the Researchathon event.
If the Researchathon organizing team receives information regarding harassment by a certain participant, our team may take any appropriate decision with regards to the situation including, but not limited to, expulsion from all Researchathon, Policy for the People, and RadScholars platforms as well as identification of the participant as a harasser and agitator across all Researchathon, Policy for the People, and RadScholars communities. Staff members and Researchathon organizers are not exempt from our anti-harassment policy and will face equally severe charges if any violations should occur.
Additionally, Researchathon participants are not allowed to utilize sexually suggestive content, images, activities, or material in their projects. Researchathon attendees, Policy for the People Discord members, Researchathon organizers, and Researchathon staff are not allowed to wear or send any sexually suggestive content on any virtual communication platforms used in the duration of the Researchathon
Researchathon staff and organizers appreciate your attendance and will assist anyone facing harassment during the Researchathon. Please follow the procedures listed below if you are being harassed, if you notice someone being harassed, or if you have any concerns. We expect participants to follow all of these rules during this virtual Researchathon and on all its associated virtual platforms.
Reporting Procedures
If you believe or have witnessed a violation of the Code of Conduct during the Researchathon, please consult https://researchathon.co/ for more information. If a faster response is required, please contact any Researchathon organizer or executive directors on Discord. All reporters will remain anonymous. If you have encountered a situation that has escalated to the point where Researchathon organizers are unable to assist you, please contact your local authorities.
